Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really have to bring my own skates?

Yes, we are looking forward to providing a skate exchange and inviting a mobile skate rental company to future skate nights, but for now, it is a bring-your-own-skates event.

Will there be more skate nights?

Yes! We are determined to bring as many as we can to our community. We are looking for future venues, but it takes volunteers, time, and especially money to secure those venues and insurance.

Will WCR open a permanent rink?

Sorry, but no. We want to offer free skate events to the community, not open a business. The board members are all happy in their current careers and only want to provide fun, free skate nights. However, if you or someone you know wants to open a rink nearby, our nonprofit would love to offer our volunteer services to help you maintain that rink and to host free skate nights there.

Can I donate to help you pay for venues, skates, and insurance?

Yes. You can donate at the event (cash, check, in-kind donations of skates for a skate exchange). You can also send us a check or donate through Venmo (@walnutcityrollers). We’ll email you a donation receipt for your taxes. Thanks!

Can I join your board, or volunteer at events?

Maybe. We are working out our volunteer requirements and are excited to have some help. Email us to find out more.

Will there be music?

Yes! That is actually how this whole thing started. Nathan and Molly reached out to McKenzie to DJ a skate night. McKenzie inspired us to form a nonprofit and offer frequent skate nights to the community. McKenzie will be DJing, so reach out to him via our Facebook event or email skate@walnutcityrollers.org to request songs or artists.

Will there be food?

Yes! Our first night will feature Serendipity Ice Cream and a portion of the proceeds will go toward future free skate events!

Will there be swag?

We are working on it. Hopefully, we will be able to sell stickers, t-shirts, and bags (for your skates!) with our logo soon. The proceeds from those sales will go toward future free skate events!
